This subject about denim and classic cars is very personal to FLNYC, because the love for the two runs really deep. We love denim fashion on so many levels. Classic/vintage cars reminds us of FUN creative art on wheels, from the streets of Detroit Michigan to Atlanta GA. Growing up in Detroit, The Car Capital, it was ALWAYS a show for someone to grace the streets of the city with nothing but the best tricked out hot rod/classic cars whatever you want to call it. It was a sight to see and hear and the adrenaline you get from witnessing the art on wheels experience, it’s REMARKABLE.
One of our favorite things to wear when going to car shows, festivals or outside summer events is DENIM! Denim short shorts, denim mini skirts or a pair of extra distressed shredded light weight denim jeans. You can’t go wrong with how comfortable and stylish it can be.
As for classic car season, it's always a nostalgic time for car enthusiasts to show off their prized possessions. From vintage Mustangs to sleek Corvettes, classic CHEVYS {a favorite} car shows and events will be in full swing during the spring and summer months. It's a great opportunity to admire these timeless beauties and maybe even take a cruise in one yourself. And make sure you’re wearing your flyest of DENIM! ❤️ Below we discuss some cool things to wear to summer car shows or even your favorite outdoor event!
1. Vintage-Inspired Attire:
Embrace the nostalgia of classic cars by wearing vintage Inspired clothing Think retro sundress, bright fun colors. high-waisted pants, Daisy Duke shorts, cute custom cuts of denim BOHO looks and so much more. The fashion is very summer music art festival attire and the more creative, comfy and more stylish the better. Definitely have the fun with it. 2. Comfortable Footwear: So Important!
More than likely you'll be doing a lot of walking on different surfaces at a car show or outdoor events, so make sure you go for COMFORT Footwear such as sneakers, flat sandals or maybe a wedge if you have to have some height, Us personally we love a Berkinstock style sandal or a chunky sneaker. The Chanel sandal pick below is similar but a different color to what $kye (staff member) wore to a recent car show.
3. Light Layers: Just In Case!
Depending on the weather layering is key and can be the best thing to think of while attending a car show. Bring a light jacket or a cardigan that you can easily take on and off as needed.You may also want to bring a hat and of course some sunglasses for added sun protection. You never know what the weather will be. Great cardigan below for added layering or something lighter weight.
4. Accessories:
This is where we like to have fun because we love chokers and sunglasses. Always make sure you have the shades as mentioned above and in this case we love a theme so a pair of vintage cat eye sunglasses are perfect! Also, a nice vintage stone jeweled ruby style choker was my choice to fit in my retro theme. Classic vintage cars and denim shorts known as thee Daisy Duke are iconic symbols of American style.The combination of these two elements evokes true nostalgia and retro charm. History
One thing we thought was really cool, is the reference that's known all around the world for short shorts. Daisy Duke shorts, most of us know that when you talk about DD shorts they are going to be really short and denim. Daisy Duke was a fictional character played by (Catherine Bach) from the 80's television show The Dukes Of Hazzard. She was the main character and the cousin to the popular Bo and Luke and they all lived on a farm with their uncle Jessie. Daisy was ALWAYS known for her short denim shorts or hot pants and her frequent car chases in her Plymouth Road Runner along with the original 1969 Dodge Charger. She was the sexy, cool kind of tough girl. When I think about it today, they had some really cool vintage vehicles in the show. . Check a photo from the era below.
